Tawny Grisette
Latin
Amanita fulva
Location
Britty Wood
Date
29th August 2021
Habitat
Soil, in mostly coniferous parts of mixed woodland
Notes
1 day earlier, was a small domed mushroom
Differentiators
Could be confused with orange grisette but an orange grisette has zigzag pattern on the stem (see https://www.wildfooduk.com/mushroom-guide/orange-grisette/ ), tawny has a smooth stem or possibly fibrillose (I wonder whether some of these were orange rather than tawny in retrospect)
Could be confused with a Caesars mushroom but Caesars mushroom hasn't been found in UK yet. A Caesars mushroom also has a ring and orange/yellow gills as opposed to the white/cream of a grisette.
Edibility
Amanita, but edible if thoroughly cooked.
